Jim has spent the last 35 years working in the banking industry and the past nine committed to helping financial institutions make educated decisions about their technology environment and service providers.  After years consulting with denovo’s and community banks, Jim set out to found a company that offers a full scope of consulting services including research, education, evaluation, selection, implementation, and project management services specifically tailored to the technology needs of community financial institutions.

Understanding and appreciating the value of community financial institutions, Jim and his team have created a business model to support the specialized needs of the industry by assembling turn key consulting solutions that are both flexible and affordable. BankSmart guides the management teams of their client institutions through the technology selection and vendor performance process, providing assistance with project management and implementation along the way. The result is a smarter style of consulting that combines advisory services and web-based products to provide community financial institutions a unique approach to finding affordable solutions that help ensure long-term success.

Prior to founding BankSmart, Jim acquired skills in nearly every aspect of banking operations including front and back office operations, retail branch administration, deposit and non-deposit services, data and item processing, security, lending, human resources, and training. After becoming a full-time consultant in 2001, he and his team assisted more than 100 de novo and community banks in successfully completing operational projects ranging from full-scale de novo startup services and complete bank data processing conversions to contract negotiation and implementation of internet banking, item processing, and document imaging services. His familiarity with the service providers in the industry and comprehensive understanding of the vendor selection process has earned him a respected reputation among both clients and peers within the banking industry.

Among his many achievements, Jim is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, the Missouri School of Banking, Missouri School of Lending, University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking, ABA’s National Commercial Lending School, and is an instructor for the American Institute of Banking.

A bank professional with nearly 32 years experience in item and data processing, bank operations, vendor selection, contract negotiation, and IT solutions, Bob brings a broad range of skills to his position. As a Senior Consultant, he is responsible not only for helping community banks assess their needs and find the right solutions but also implement those solutions successfully.

Bob is responsible for assisting both existing and de novo banks with a variety of consulting and implementation services. He also spent four years as Vice President of Imaging/Item Processing at First National Bank of Florida in Naples and seven years as Vice President of Operations at Guaranty Bank & Trust in Venice. In the latter position he specialized in managing the image item processing, remittance processing, document imaging, statement rendering, and courier logistics for the bank. In addition, he planned, supervised and implemented thirteen item processing conversions ranging from internal systems to bank acquisitions as large as one billion in assets.

His experience combined with exceptional problem solving and project management skills give Bob a keen understanding of what a community bank needs to conduct a thorough assessment, find the right technology solutions, and run them both efficiently and affordably.

Bob attended Edison Community College and is a 2008 graduate of the Florida School of Banking.

Josie has been in community banking for more than 30 years, with extensive experience in loan and deposit operations, electronic banking, loan administration, and project management.

Prior to joining BankSmart, Josie held management positions at financial institutions in the Baltimore, Maryland market. At Chase Manhattan Bank of Maryland, she was Loan Operations and Servicing Manager, responsible for servicing a $750 million consumer loan portfolio. She held a variety of positions at Provident Bank, including Indirect Auto Operations Manager, Commercial Loan Documentation & Review Manager, Investor Relations Manager, and finally Senior Vice President of Loan Administration and Servicing. In that role, she consolidated all loan operations and servicing functions for a $4 billion loan portfolio that included consumer, commercial business, commercial real estate, and small business loans.

Most recently, Josie served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer at Bay Bank, a community bank headquartered in Columbia, Maryland. In addition to her responsibilities managing loan administration, loan servicing, deposit operations, electronic banking, payments, enterprise risk management, and information technology, she was responsible for project management for two whole bank acquisitions, one failed bank acquisition, and three core system conversions.

Josie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College). She also graduated from Maryland Banker’s School and the CBA Graduate School of Retail Bank Management.

Dawn has over sixteen years experience working in the community financial industry. Her broad background in bank operations and security, auditing, and operations consulting gives her a strong knowledge base with which to assess and advise her community bank clients.

Prior to joining BankSmart, Dawn held positions as Safe Deposit Assistant and Security Assistant at Savings Bank of Manchester in Connecticut where her responsibilities included assistance with fraud cases, management of a check fraud database, assisting in internal revenue reporting and monitoring accounts for fraudulent activity. In addition, Dawn served as a Route Audit Clerk for Coca-Cola Enterprises and has worked with BankSmart team members since 2004 as a Bank Operations Consultant/Analyst responsible for creating and managing pricing models, supporting project managers, and assisting community bank clients in a number of areas such as ATM and Debit Card Services.

With a wide range of industry knowledge including security, fraud prevention, and operations consulting Dawn brings valuable expertise in project and time management, communications, implementation, and customer support to all projects in which she is involved.

Dawn holds a degree in Management Information Systems from Central Connecticut State University and is a Class of 2009 graduate of the Florida School of Banking.

With over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, Brad is well versed in the areas of payment services operations, relationship management, sales, and the careful matching of solutions to client needs.

Brad is a founding shareholder of BankSmart and spent 13 years in the areas of direct and indirect sales, support, and installation of network products and services for the Pulse Debit Network before joining BankSmart as a consultant. He has also held sales and account manager positions with other payment services organizations.

Among his many awards and achievements, Brad has been recognized multiple times for sales leadership, achievement and customer retention. He also carries degrees in Accounting, Finance and Marketing Administration from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.

Nancy has developed broad financial services experience over a span of 30 years with 15 years focused on credit and debit card products and operations. Her experience includes core processing, correspondent deposit products, retail deposit products and operations, and online banking. Through her hands-on leadership with start-ups, innovative product and operations development and implementations, customer service, vendor evaluation and selection, and contract negotiations, she has helped bring companies and competitive products to life as both the financial institution and vendor.

Nancy came to BankSmart from a third-party credit and debit card processor for issuers. She led the company start-up, where she developed and went on to manage the full spectrum of competitive products and operations, from authorization processing, risk management, dispute processing, clearing and settlement, card generation services, and cardholder rewards. Her expertise includes helping clients evaluate their programs and develop strategies to grow the bottom line.

Nancy’s experience and perspective reaches beyond the vendor perspective. She began her career at a correspondent credit union where she gained hands-on experience with deposit products including item processing, check collection, ACH and Fed Wire. More recently she played a lead role in the de novo start-up of one of the first internet only banks in the U.S., where she developed their deposit products and operations – including their debit and ATM card program, call center operations, online banking, core system implementation, and managed the marketing and PR launch.
